Amy's Virtual Presence

Married to Tullio Proni 1991-2007.

A mutual friend realized that we both spoke Italian and introduced us to each other. I learned Italian in 1980 when the U.S. Air Force sent me to Aviano Air Base for an extended tour of duty. Tullio was born in Italy and immigrated to the US with his parents when he was a child. We speak English and Italian at home.

This photo of us was taken on December 31, 1999.

Home: A big house in the Vine Neighborhood of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Kalamazoo is located in the southwestern corner of the state. Click on the link for a Map of Michigan

Home-away-from-home: Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, specifically the Keweenaw Peninsula. We recently purchased land on a ridge overlooking Lake Superior; someday we hope to build a cabin on it. Click here to see the view.

Favorite childhood memory: Bicycling to the town library and checking out books, then returning home to climb into my tree-fort with the books, and not coming out of the fort until I’d finished reading all of them. Doing it all over again the next day. Now I have a library at home, and I work in the Cataloging Department of Waldo Library at Western Michigan University. Books, reading, and learning are very important to me.

American Shorthair Cats. I raise kittens for the Melodygarden cattery, which is owned by Carol Johnson. She specializes in breeding the rare "silver shaded" color. At right is an image of my cat, Alta, at 4 months. To see Alta's male kitten Pinot, her older brother Creeper, and her mother Jasmine, click here.
The Domestic Shorthair cat was one of the first five recognized by the Cat Fanciers' Association in 1906. The name was changed to American Shorthair in 1966. The primary difference between a purebred cat and a randomly bred cat is that selective breeding consistently produces offspring with desirable qualities in build, coat, and temperment.
